Corporate Prayer

“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them” (Matthew 18:20).

Corporate prayer is simply praying as one. When we gather together and combine our prayers as one body of Christ the results are powerful. In the book of Acts, an example of this powerful unification, we find inspiration for our church declaration.

There are two opportunities for corporate prayer every week. You can join us on Tuesday mornings at 11 AM or Sunday mornings at 12:30 PM before our afternoon service. We are honored to pray with and for you.

Acts 11:21

Common Prayers

The Lord's Prayer “...Our Father in Heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your Kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.” Matthew 6:9-13 NKJV

Psalm 91 Prayer of Protection He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

The Prayer of Jabez Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that You would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let Your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his request. 1 Chronicles 4:10 NIV

Psalm 23 Prayer of Comfort The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

21 Days of Prayer

Twice a year, Connect Church comes together to pray for twenty-one days - to begin the new year in January and in August to start the school year.

Why 21 days? In the Book of Daniel, the Prophet Daniel fasted and prayed for 21 days, symbolizing a dedicated period of focused prayer and seeking God’s guidance. The act of fasting is not just about deprivation, but a way to focus on prayer, reflection, and seeking God's guidance.

Fasting Resources

Fasting is a spiritual discipline that intentionally sets aside time, desires, or habits to focus on God. It is an act of humility, dependence, and worship that allows us to realign our hearts with His will. It creates space for us to hear God’s voice more clearly and reminds us that He is our ultimate source of strength and satisfaction.

Fasting was an expected practice in both the Old and New Testament eras. For example, Moses fasted for at least two recorded 40-day periods. Jesus fasted 40 days and reminded His followers to fast. He said, “When you fast,” not, “If you fast” (Matthew 6:16).

Deeply rooted in Scripture, fasting is a means of seeking God during pivotal moments. For instance, Jesus fasted for 40 days in the wilderness to prepare for His ministry (Matthew 4:1-2). The early church also fasted while praying for direction, as seen in Acts 13:2. David fasted to express repentance and seek God’s mercy (Psalm 35:13). Ezra proclaimed a fast to humble himself before God and seek His protection (Ezra 8:21-23).

Jesus teaches us in Matthew 6:16-18 to fast with humility, "...when you fast, don’t let it be obvious, but instead, wash your face and groom yourself and realize that your Father in the secret place is the one who is watching all that you do in secret and will continue to reward you.”

This reminds us that fasting is a personal act between you and God; it’s not about outward appearances or seeking praise but one's desire to be closer to Him.

Fasting is not about earning God’s favor but about positioning our hearts to encounter Him more deeply. It’s an opportunity to draw near to Him, surrender our desires, and grow in faith.

We encourage fasting during our annual 21 Days of Prayers as an additional way to focus ourselves. You may choose to fast at other times throughout the year for your own spiritual growth and development.

Before starting a fast, consider your physical health. Fasting should never compromise your well-being, and for some, abstaining from food or a drastic change in diet may not be an option.

Selective Fast

This fast entails removing specific elements from your diet.

The Daniel Fast involves eating minimally processed plant-based foods, and avoiding animal products, caffeine, and alcohol. Ideally, one will fast as Daniel did during his era.

Partial Fast

Sometimes called the “Jewish Fast," this option involves abstaining from eating food during a specific period of time.

Examples could be 6AM to 3PM, or from sunup to sundown.

Complete Fast

This is the route many choose to go - only consuming liquids, typically water with light juices and broth as an option.

It is not uncommon to fast a single meal, a whole day, or three days plus days on your personal desires.

If necessary, talk to your doctor, especially if you are on medication or are unsure how fasting might affect your body. For example, instead of a cold turkey stop of caffeine on Day 1, begin reducing intake or incorporating decaf a week before.

Remember, the heart of fasting is to draw closer to God through intentional sacrifice - consider what tangible actions and elements you can incorporate alongside your focused prayer. God bless you.

Caffeine

Coffee, coke or energy drinks - we encourage you to prepare in advance to allow your body to adjust.
